Road Safety Walk

On Thursday 26th February our whole school is going to Aotea Lagoon for a picnic. The older children can choose to bike, but we are walking there with our big whanau buddies.  We practised walking safely around our neighbourhood.

We set off with our class buddies.

We walked safely around the cul de sac, 

looking out for the van parked in the driveway.  

Ready to cross the road.

Look down the road.

Now we can cross safely.

This is my story about my holiday.

Pōwhiri at Papakowhai School.........

A Māori welcome on to a marae is a pōwhiri (or pōhiri). Marae are not the only places where pōwhiri take place - pōwhiri can happen anywhere that hosts (tangata whenua) wish to formally greet a group of visitors (manuhiri).

This is the waiata the manuhiri (new teachers, children and families) will be singing at our Powhiri on Wednesday...... keep practising.  The words are also in the communication book.

M.O.O.T. - Managing Our Own Time is a ninety minute activity based programme which runs once a week on Fridays.
The children get a chance to manage their own learning. They are excited and fully engaged. Best of all, it is FUN.

Today we went to the library. Mrs Munro is our school librarian.
We chose two books to take home. 
We can keep our books at home until next Wednesday.

On Thursday we went into our Buzz Groups and brainstormed our ideas about being sunsmart

We came up with 6 things we need to do to be SunSmart.......

• slip on a t.shirt
• slop on some sunscreen
• slap on a hat
• wrap on some sunglasses
• stay in the shade
• drink lots of water
