School Composting...

We have new compost bins at school.
Each day enviro monitors take our Brain Food scraps to the compost bins.
The big bins are behind Rimu block.

Toryn and Josh are Rata Tahi enviro monitors this week....

We have a poster in our space that tells us what things
to put and not put in the compost bin

Toys
Today we brought toys to school
for our Inquiry Unit.
 We talked about
classifying our toys by
how they moved.

 These toys move by
pushing or pulling.

This toy moves by pulling it along.

 These toys move by battery.

This toy moves by a lever.

 This toy moves by pulling
it back and letting it go.

We learnt that toys can move
in lots of different ways.

Today we had Session 1 of Ole soccer.
Over the next five weeks, coaches Joel and Michael will be teaching us lots of soccer skills.
Today we learned how to dribble the ball and shoot a goal.
We had so much fun we can't wait until next week.

On Friday we had a swarm of bees arrive at school. The bees decided to make a hive under the library.
We decided it wasn't a good place for us or the bees.
A beekeeper came to help the bees find another home.........

After the earthquake practise we went to the hall for a ukulele concert......

Today we took part in the Nationwide Earthquake Drill.....

If we had an earthquake at school would go under our tables and hold on.
We would stay calm and quiet so we can hear the teacher.
We would wait until our teacher told us it was safe to get up.

What would you do at home?

BE PREPARED......

Before

  • Practice your earthquake drill: DROP, COVER AND HOLD.
  • Talk with your family and prepare an emergency plan.
  • Identify safe places close to you at home or school.
  • Get your parents to 'Fix, Fasten and Forget' items at home.

During

  • DROP, COVER AND HOLD.
  • Stay where you are until the shaking stops.
  • If inside remain inside, if outside stay outside.
  • Do not attempt to run outside.

After

  • Listen to and follow all instructions from adults or the radio.
  • Stay calm.
  • If you can, help others who may need it.
  • Watch out for possible dangers or hazards.
  • Remember there may be some aftershocks.
  • Remember your prepared action plan and follow it if it is safe to do so.
