In Rata Tahi we have been retelling the story of
Jack and the Beanstalk

Here are some of our stories...

Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack and he saw a man and the man gave him the magic beans and the beans started to grow into a beanstalk. Then Jack climbed the beanstalk. He saw a castle and he stole some golden eggs. On the way down the giant chased Jack down the beanstalk and his Mum chopped the beanstalk down
Retold by Charlie.

Jack's Mum threw the beans outside. the beanstalk grew overnight. Jack climbed up the beanstalk. He saw a giant. He ran away with the golden goose and the money. Jack's Mum chopped down the beanstalk and they lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack.
His mother said, "we have no money for the food we need. So he said, "sell the cow to market so we can get some money so we can buy some food we need". So Jack sold the cow. But on the his way he met a man.
He said, "I will buy that cow". If you give me that cow
I will give you this magic bean. If you plant this magic bean you will live happily ever after".
Jack wanted to live happily ever after so he took the magic bean and set off. When he got home his mother said, "You! sold! the! cow! but! now! we! have! no! money! and no! food! you naughty boy!"
Then his mother threw the magic bean out the window and then they went to bed hungry. All night the bean grew and grew and grew into the clouds. When Jack woke up his window was covered in green.
He saw a beanstalk. He climbed up the beanstalk, so he did but at the top there was a castle. Inside the castle there was a sleeping giant. In it he saw a chicken that laid a golden egg. Jack said in a whisper, I want that chicken and then he took the chicken quietly.
But! he got caught by the giant. He ran out of the castle. Finally Jack reached the beanstalk. He climbed down the beanstalk but the giant followed him down it. When he got to the bottom of the beanstalk he yelled to his mother, "Get the axe". So his mother got the axe for Jack. He took the axe off his mother and then chopped the beanstalk down. The giant fell down the beanstalk never to be seen again.
After that the bean was thrown into space never to be seen again and Jack's family lived happily ever after.

ART
PRINTMAKING...

First, we needed  some styrofoam squares.
Then we used a pencil to draw a flower making sure we were pressing down hard on the foam

We put ink on our printing boards (foam).
Then we covered the board with a piece of paper.
We used a roller to press the paper.
Finally lifted the paper.
