Friday Art...

This week we did some
observational drawings of the Kowhai flower..
The Kowhai flower is special to us.
Papakowhai, a suburb of Porirua City, (and the name of our school) lies approximately 22 km north of Wellington in New Zealand. The name "Papakowhai" (Māori pronunciation: [papaˈkɔfai]) in the Māori language means "land covered by kowhai trees".

We LOOKED and we TALKED....

Then we DREW....

Little Barking Dog Theatre

Little Barking Dog Theatre

The theatre came to Rata
with an amazing production
"The Little Kowhai Tree"

Little Kowhai Tree is a magical story
of how things grow.
Seeds are planted,
green shoots begin to appear
and Little Kowhai Tree
begins her journey of growing up.

Hail!
On Thursday we could
hear the hail
pelting on the roof at school.

It was very loud so
we went outside
to see what hail
looked and felt like.
Hail is.....icy, cold, hard,
small, round, wet,
freezing, crunchy,
white and clear,
stinging, wintery,
frozen chunks of ice.

Today we finished creating an artwork for our 2017 calendar.
Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama was our inspiration.
She likes to use dots in her art.

We hope you like our artwork. Order forms for the calendars will be coming home this Wednesday. Great idea for Christmas presents....
