Happy Waitangi Day...

Waitangi Day, February 6, is a national holiday in New Zealand. It commemorates the signing of the
Treaty of Waitangi and the official forming of the modern country. One people.

The treaty was signed in 1840, in a house belonging to James Busby of Waitangi, in the Bay of Islands.

The day is usually celebrated at Waitangi with ceremonies and church services. Elsewhere, for others it is a day to celebrate being a New Zealander.

The treaty itself was a document sighed by British leaders and Maori Leaders.

Protection, Partnership and Participation. These three words were in the treaty.

We are making our own class treaty following the 3 P's
Protection means looking after each other. Partnership means working together as one and Participation means joining in and being a part of school life.

In Porirua we celebrate with a Festival of the Elements…….
